South Tillamook County has a large array of outdoor activities for the entire family. Munson Creek Falls located just North of Beaver, Oregon has the tallest waterfall on the Oregon Coast. This waterfall is easy to locate. It's only two miles off Hwy 101, and a 20 minute level walk takes you to the base of this gorgeous waterfall. This is a must see stop on your drive touring the Oregon Coast. RV's are not recommended as the road to the Falls is narrow and the turnaround area is limited.

In order to see one of the most beautiful and scenic areas on the Oregon Coast we recommend taking the Three Capes Scenic route as an alternative route from Hwy 101. Starting in the North from Tillamook, be sure to stop at Cape Meares Lighthouse. This lighthouse is open daily until 4:00 pm and allows visitors the opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse. This is a great spot to view the vast and amazing Pacific Ocean. Stop by the Octopus Tree only a few short steps from the Lighthouse.

Continue South on the Three Cape Scenic Loop to Cape Lookout State Park. Contact www.OregonStateParks.org for information on camping and day-use. There are over eight miles of hiking and walking trails. Be sure to book early during the months of July and August. Walking trails are abundant throughout all of South Tillamook County. Just south of Cape Lookout is the popular Sandlake area. This area is perfect for those who love riding ATVs on the sand dunes.

The Three Capes Scenic Route ends at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, home to the Dory Fleet. During early mornings you can watch Dory Boats launch directly off the beach into the Pacific Ocean. These flat bottom boats are designed just for the beach and a sure enjoyment for the entire family to watch.. There are fishing charters available for those who would like to fish in the ocean or rivers. Visit Pacific City the second week of July for the celebration of the Dory Fleet during the annual Dory Days Festival.

Only one mile off the beach in Pacific City is Haystack Rock at 322 feet high. This large Rock is sanctuary to a large selection of birds including the popular puffin. Many beautiful sunsets can be seen from the beach. Be sure to bring your camera, as the sunsets behind Haystack Rock are some of the most beautiful you will ever see. Visit Pacific City the last week of February for the annual Birding and Blues Festival.

Some other beach activities include: hand gliding, beach combing, surfing, kite flying, and a relaxing stroll on the beach. At Cape Kiwanda be sure to go to the tidepools during low tide. You can spot various sea life such as starfish, crabs, small fish, sand-crabs, mussels, sand dollars, beach agates, and sea anemone at the tidepools. These tidepools are home to so many different sea life, we ask that you not take any home with you. There is no overnight camping on the beach, but you are allowed to drive onto the beach. During the winter months, the ocean is most active with winter storms and tourists love to watch the massive waves crash against the beaches in Oregon. You might even find a glass-float on the beach after one of these amazing storms.

Pacific City, Oregon offers three access points to the beach. The first access point is at Bob Straub State Park. Restroom facilities, parking and horseback riding trails are located here. The second walking access point is on Pacific Ave. The third access point at Cape Kiwanda allows for motor vehicles on the beach and a large parking area.. The Nestucca River runs through Pacific City and empties into the ocean only one mile south of Pacific City. Salmon fishing is a great sporting event during the Spring and Fall.

Back on Hwy 101, heading South from Beaver is Hebo, Oregon. Hebo is home to Mount Hebo located off Hwy 22. About half way up Mount Hebo is Hebo Lake. 16 camp sites surround this small secluded lake and are available on a first come first serve basis, so plan according. Horse trails start only a short drive past Hebo Lake.

The next town South of Hebo is Cloverdale, Oregon "Oregon's Best Kept Secret". The annual Clover's Day is held the first week of July, followed by the Pacific City -Nestucca Valley Firework's Display on the beach in Pacific City. Everyone is invited to this all day family event.

Heading South from Cloverdale, you will pass the exit to Pacific City. Pacific City is only three miles West of Hwy 101. The last and most Southern town in Tillamook County is Neskowin, Oregon. Here you can golf or walk on this beautiful beach.. The famous Proposal Rock is only a short walk from the rest area.
